2016 Melbourne Cup on the Cards for Max Dynamite

June 20th, 2016

Max Dynamite remains a chance of returning to Australia for a second attempt at the Melbourne Cup (3200m) in 2016, despite being unable to make much of an impact in the Group 1 Gold Cup (4023m) at Royal Ascot over the weekend.

Max Dynamite was sent off an $8 chance of success in the Gold Cup, and did his chances of winning no harm whatsoever when jumping well and taking a good position in transit on the heels of the early leaders; settling into a good rhythm.

Remaining on the fence rounding onto the final straight, the Great Journey was clearly on the wrong part of the track when failing to produce much of a turn of foot; subsequently finishing tenth.

Prominent owner Rich Ricci told Sky Sports there was plenty to like about Max Dynamite’s performance in the major staying test, and revealed a defence of his crown in the Group 2 Lonsdale Cup (3299m) will figure before a possible return to Australia for the 2016 Melbourne Cup.

“He travelled really well. We went down the inside of the winner. It was a gamble. He might have been a bit too far back and I thought we might have been a bit handier,” Ricci said.

“That being said, Pat (Smullen – jockey) didn’t think he stayed. I don’t know if that is the case, but we will probably drop him back to two miles again. The Lonsdale Cup is the next stop I reckon.

“It depends on what kind of weight he gets (in the 2016 Melbourne Cup) and how he runs.

“You hate to think, as one can do sometimes, that last year was his day and that we are on a downward curve as his two runs have been disappointing.

“I’d say we would give him time off, freshen him up and see how he is. If he performs well in the Lonsdale Cup, we will probably go back.”

Max Dynamite has been a strong and consistent performer through his entire racing career so far; posting three wins and a further six minors through seventeen starts both flat and over the jumps.

Arriving in Australia for a solitary start in 2015, Max Dynamite produced an impressive performance to finish second behind Prince Of Penzance.

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best 2016 Melbourne Cup odds, for which Max Dynamite can be taken at a generous quote of $17 for success.
