Due to arrive in Australia on Saturday ahead of a campaign that is likely to include starts in both the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18th and Melbourne Cup, Admire Rakti’s lead-in to the 2014 Melbourne Cup interestingly features several close comparisons to that of 2006 champion and fellow Japanese stayer Delta Blues.

Running on for second in the Group 2 Hanshin Daishoten (3016m) behind leading stayer Gold Ship first-up on March 23rd; a race for which Delta Blues finished third in 2006, the Heart’s Cry entire was unable to figure in the Group 1 Tenno Sho (3218m) last time out, but is reportedly in career-best condition ahead of his Australian arrival.

Unlucky to finish a close second in two editions of the Melbourne Cup, Red Cadeaux has been confirmed for a fourth-consecutive tilt at the race that stops a nation and will carry 57kgs on November 4th.

Securing an impressive record of seven wins and 17 minor places from 46 competitive starts, Red Cadeaux finished second in a photo finish to Dunaden in 2011, and while unable to figure when eighth in the 2012 edition, returned to competitive form when second to Fiorente in 2013.

Having already contested feature events in Britain, Dubai and Japan this year, trainer Ed Dunlop is confident his veteran globetrotter will again lay a great account for himself in the 2014 Melbourne Cup.

Running on for fifth in the 2013 Melbourne Cup after winning the Caulfield Cup, leading Macedon Lodge hopeful Fawkner will also be required to carry 57kgs in the 2014 Melbourne Cup, as will 2012 champion Green Moon.

Claiming an impressive total of nine wins and seven minor places from just 23 competitive starts so far, Fawkner is a proven spring performer having won three of four starts through the 2012 carnival and finishing second in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) in his only other starts.

Arguably hitting career best form over the 2013 Spring Carnival, the Reset gelding finished fifth in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) and third in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) prior to his Cups appearances.

Returning to the track for second in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) last weekend, Fawkner appears inline for another memorable preparation geared towards the Melbourne Cup.

Winning the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) in the lead-up to his impressive 2012 Melbourne Cup victory, Green Moon has surprisingly been unable to secure another race win in ten proceeding starts, but has returned to the track in competitive form this year in finishing second in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) and credible sixth in the Makybe Diva Stakes first-up this time in.
