Rawiller Confirmed for 2014 Melbourne Cup Campaign with Silent Achiever

July 31st, 2014

Confirming the talented mare will return to Australian shores to contest a racing path geared towards the featured Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) on November 4th, trainer Roger James has revealed leading jockey Nash Rawiller will retain the ride on Silent Achiever through the entirety of the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.

Silent Achiever was a standout performer over the 2014 autumn season; winning the Retina Specialists Handicap (1500m) in her native New Zealand first-up before charging home to win the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m) on March 8th.

Crossing the ditch to contest events over the 2014 Sydney Autumn Carnival, the O’reilly mare immediately displayed her worth when securing resounding back-to-back victories in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 The BMW (2400m).

Returning to New Zealand and the spelling paddock after finishing a fighting fourth in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on April 19th, James told AAP he could not be more pleased with the way Silent Achiever has taken to work in the lead-up to spring.

“She is right where we need her at this stage of her preparation,” James said.

Having secured the services of Rawiller for Silent Achiever’s successful autumn campaign just a day before the Ranvet Stakes, James said the in-form hoop is confident of continuing the fruitful partnership on a hit-and-run basis, having signed a contract to ride in Hong Kong through spring.

“I have spoken with Nash at length on a couple of occasions today and he is very confident that he can get a release for every one of her runs and he’s very keen to stick with her,” James added.

“He’s a world class rider and I’m just rapt to have somebody like him wanting to ride her.

“He knows her well now too which is also very important to me.”

Securing an impressive total of 10 wins and five minor places from just 26 competitive race starts to date, Silent Achiever is a four-time Group 1 champion, having also secured the 2012 edition of the New Zealand Derby (2400m) during her very first racing preparation.

Yet to confirm a path for the rising six-year-old through spring, James said the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 30th is likely to figure as the first point of call on the way to the Melbourne Cup.
