Debuting to Australian racing with a hard-fought third in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) on Match 8th, Lucia Valentina appeared to lack the class necessary to compete at the highest level of Australian racing when finishing twelfth in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 22nd, however silenced all critics when charging home to win the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (200m) just two weeks later.

Returning to the spelling paddock after claiming third in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m), the Savabeel mare displayed a keen ability to overcome poor running conditions in her 900m trial at Newcastle, understandably pleasing trainer Kris Lees.

“The track was pretty cut up from Saturday’s races, so I didn’t want her to do too much,” Lees told The Daily Telegraph.

“But I was happy with how she went and she pulled up well.

“I’d say she will probably have another trial in a couple of weeks and then she will be ready to return to racing.”

Securing an impressive total of three wins and three minor places from just nine competitive race starts to date, Lucia Valentina began her racing career under the guidance of kiwi trainer Stephen Marsh; winning on debut and on continuing to build in form and class on her way to victory in the Group 3 Wellington Stakes (1600m) and second in the Group 2 Royal Stakes (2000m) on January 1st.

Also likely to contest the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 25th, a race for which she is currently available at odds of $15 on the second line of betting with leading online bookie, Lucia Valentina can be taken at a particularly generous quote of $26 for success in the Race that Stops a Nation on November 4th. is currently offering all new punters the chance to claim a bonus bet of up to $250, just for signing up!
