Red Cadeaux Ready For 2012 Melbourne Cup Revenge

November 2nd, 2012

Trainer Ed Dunlop is predicting a European horse will take home the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday November 3, 2012.

Dunlop, who will be represented by Red Cadeaux in the 2012 Melbourne Cup, feels that his horse has what it takes to win the $6 million race.

Red Cadeaux finished second to Dunaden last start in the shortest margin ever recorded in the Melbourne Cup’s long history.

”Just have a look at him, he looks amazing,” Dunlop said.

”The last time I saw him it was very cold and he was woolly in his coat. He has had a clip and he looks very good for it.”

Should Red Cadeaux not win the 2012 Melbourne Cup, Dunlop is confident that it will still go to one of the many European horses in the race.

He rates Mount Athos as one of the biggest chances in the 3,200 metre Melbourne Cup.

”It should be a European victory but obviously it is a horse race and the horses have to get there in good condition,” Dunlop said.

”Mount Athos sticks out from the way he’s been progressing through the ranks and Mr [Luca] Cumani, we know, is desperate to win it.”

Red Cadeaux will be ridden once again by jockey Michael Rodd in the 2012 Melbourne Cup.
